A TEAM of riders from Longhope set off on an ambitious 500-mile charity challenge on Wednesday, July 15, to raise money for mental health charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).
The group began their Slow Ride for Strong Minds fundraiser on 50cc mopeds, aiming to complete the five-day journey before returning home on Sunday, July 19.
Starting and finishing in Longhope, the route will take the riders on a 500-mile journey through Topsham, Perranporth, Falmouth and Selworthy Beacon before returning to the Forest of Dean.
The challenge is designed not only to raise vital funds but also to encourage people to speak openly about mental health and support those who may be struggling.
The challenge has been organised by Harrison Croudace, who is raising funds for CALM, a charity dedicated to preventing suicide and helping people experiencing mental health difficulties. CALM provides a life-saving helpline for people in crisis, those worried about loved ones and anyone bereaved by suicide. The charity says just £12.20 is enough to fund one potentially life-saving call.
Throughout the ride, the group will be promoting a simple but powerful message: "It's okay to not be okay. Talk. Support. Listen. Save lives."
The challenge is being undertaken in memory of Andrew Croudace, Paul Woodman, Robbie Huggins and Steve Baldwin. Organisers hope the ride will honour their memories while helping others access support and reminding people that every story matters.
Supporters gathered at The Yew Tree in Longhope to cheer the riders on as they departed. Staff at Flamin Edges described it as a privilege to see Harrison Croudace and the team begin their journey, thanking everyone who had sponsored the fundraiser and wishing the riders a safe trip.
People can support the challenge by donating to Harrison Croudace's CALM fundraiser or by following the Slow Ride for Strong Minds Facebook page for updates throughout the five-day ride.
