RESIDENTS across the Forest of Dean are being encouraged to dive in and support local hospice care by taking part in next week’s Great Oaks Hospice Swimathon at Bathurst Pool in Lydney.

The charity event will take place on Saturday, May 16, with swimmers of all abilities invited to take on the challenge while raising money for Great Oaks Hospice.

Participants can swim as many or as few lengths as they wish, with organisers saying every contribution will help support patients and families across the area.

Entry costs £5, with all proceeds going towards the hospice’s work providing care and support for people with life limiting illnesses.

Great Oaks Hospice Events team said there is still time for people to sign up and book a swimming slot ahead of the event.

A spokesperson said: “Take the plunge and help support local hospice care while challenging yourself in the pool.

“Whether you swim a few lengths or go the distance, every splash makes a difference.”

People taking part can simply pay the entry fee through the charity’s JustGiving page, while anyone wishing to raise additional sponsorship is encouraged to create their own fundraising page linked to the main appeal.

Swimmers are also being invited to bring along friends, family members or teammates to take part together and help raise as much money as possible for the hospice.

To book a swim time slot, people can contact the organisers by calling 01593 811910 or by emailing [email protected].

Great Oaks Hospice provides care and support services for people and families throughout the Forest of Dean and surrounding areas.

Organisers hope the Swimathon will not only raise vital funds, but also bring the community together for a fun and active day supporting an important local cause at one of Lydney’s best loved outdoor facilities.
