MORE wild boar are set to be culled in the Forest, after a survey confirmed that the population has grown significantly in the past 12 months to over 800. Using thermal imaging cameras to conduct the survey, the Forestry Commission estimates that boar numbers have risen from 535 in 2013 to 819 in 2014, despite a cull of 135 animals. The commission has warned that it will need to undertake a much larger cull to maintain the boar population at 400 – a figure agreed by the Verderers as 'acceptable'. However, conservationists have reacted angrily to the Forestry Commission's warnings of a larger cull.
