THEY'RE top of the league having won 10 games on the trot, but player/coach Brett Scriven believes Berry Hill have yet to find their best form.

The Western Counties leaders have not lost since going down to Thornbury on the opening day of the season.

Scriven said: "We've had a fantastic run, but we've got a lot more to give.

"I honestly believe we can play even better.

"Having said that, I still think we'd have beaten Thornbury with a better pre-season."

Berry Hill's pack has provided them with a terrific platform from which to play this season.

Skipper Andy Wright has led from the front for a couple of seasons, but the hooker now has the menacing Luke Hunter besides him in the front-row. Hunter previously played at a higher level for the likes of Pontypool, Lydney and Barking – having learnt his rugby in Hill's junior set-up.

Scriven said: "On the pitch he's a horrible human being. Off the pitch, he's a great guy.

"Our other prop Clive Ryder is exactly the same.

"Clive has always been a really good player but joining us from Bream has freed him up a bit so he can concentrate on his rugby. Our front-row players really compliment each other."

Former Lydney number eight Scriven has been playing primarily in the second-row this season because there is an embarrassment of riches in the back-row with the likes of Kurt Brown, Tony Bean, Sean McRoberts and Richard Hobbs.

Scriven said: "We can smash people in the scrums but there's more to us than that.

"We can rough it up if we have to but we can also play rugby.

"There's so much competition for places.

"We've got three quality scrum-halves in Dave Arnott, Greg Jordan and Chris Watkins, while Lee Osborne, Pete Pritchard and James Legge can all play 10.

"The whole club is strong right now, including the United team, the Wappers and the junior teams. Everyone is buzzing."
