SOME 120 residents from the Clearwell area were out in force on Sunday to protest against plans to expand Stowe Hill Quarry.

Quarry operators Breedon Aggregates have applied to Gloucestershire County Council for permission to expand the quarry, whilst retaining a processing plant at the nearby Clearwell Quarry.

But opponents to the scheme claim that the heavily-laden lorries travelling between the two sites would pose unacceptable traffic danger, noise and pollution.

The protesters walked around the perimeter of the proposed new quarry boundary and were shocked to see the impact it would have on the local environment.
