A RESIDENT of Lydney is hoping for some extra support with their dog, and The Cinnamon Trust, a national charity for elderly and terminally ill pet owners, is asking for volunteers from the local area to help.

The charity provides a wide range of free services to ensure pets and their owners can stay together for as long as possible. Its dedicated volunteers assist in whatever ways are most needed, from taking dogs for walks and visiting the vet, to cleaning out bird cages or litter trays.

For owners who need to go into hospital or respite care, volunteers may even foster their pets temporarily, ensuring they continue to live happily in a caring home.

Sally from The Cinnamon Trust explained: “Many older or terminally ill pet owners worry about their ability to care for their animals. Often their pets are their only companions. Our volunteers help alleviate that worry, making sure pets continue to receive the love and attention they deserve.”

The charity also offers long-term support for pets if an owner passes away or enters permanent care. In such cases, pets are re-homed with one of the Trust’s long-term foster volunteers, with all vet fees covered and ongoing support provided, including holiday care.

Currently, The Cinnamon Trust is especially seeking dog walking volunteers in Lydney to support a local resident and their dog, who would love a short daily walk. Volunteers can choose the level of commitment that suits them, whether that’s regular walks, helping with vet visits, or offering temporary fostering.

Anyone interested in volunteering can download a registration form from the charity’s website at www.cinnamon.org.uk, email [email protected], or call the office on 01736 758 701 during Monday to Friday office hours.
