AN unemployed woman, who has had to survive on just £370 for almost two months, has suffered a miscarriage and is now facing eviction from her Cinderford flat.

Amy Cooper, 26, who says she’s just had £370.40 to live on since the end of November, feels the stress she has been put through is part of the cause for losing her unborn child.

She now faces the prospect of living on the streets after the County Court of Gloucester and Cheltenham ordered her to pay £2,891.16 and told to her to vacate her High Street flat by tomorrow (January 19).

“I’ve lost my baby because of all of this,” Miss Cooper said.

“It has been a really tough time for me and they are going to evict me on Friday.

“If they had done what they said they were going to do and paid my rent directly I wouldn’t be in this situation.

“I’ve still not been paid anything since November. And now I face the prospect of being out on the streets.”

The Department of Work and Pensions had been paying Miss Cooper universal credit before she took on employment in November.

However, she finished working that same month and the DWP said they could not pay her any universal credit for December because she had been paid £790 for

November by her previous employer.

But Miss Cooper says she needed an advance payment of around £420 when she began working in November which she had to pay back as she did not work a full month.

She only received around £370 from her former employer and despite notifying the Jobcentre of her change of circumstances she has not received payment since.

Now the County Court has served an order for possession on Miss Amy Cooper.

And she has been asked to pay £2,536.16 for rent arrears plus the claimant Plexus UK’s costs which total £355.

Miss Cooper said: “I’ve been in touch with the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and they are going to contact my landlord. But I really don’t know what they can do.”

A spokesperson for the Department of Work and Pensions said: “Universal Credit adjusts automatically to a person’s earnings, making it much more flexible than the old system.

“Miss Cooper was paid the correct amount of UC, and her Work Coach is on hand to discuss any further help she may need.”
