ROB Worgan has stepped down as chairman of Cinderford Rugby Club with immediate effect.
The resignation, just a couple of months into the season, will come as a major shock to those outside Dockham Road, but Rob says it has nothing to do with poor results on the pitch.
He has served as Cinderford's chairman for around 12 years, after taking over from Dave Field.
Rob told The Forester: "I thought long and hard about it and it seems as good a time as any.
"It's a substantial job, although I think some of the members deserve a lot of credit in the last three years for taking a lot of jobs on.
"I won't be disappearing from the scene completely, I'll still be around, but I won't be treading on anyone's toes which is why I've also stepped down as fixtures secretary."
Vice-chairman Gary Trigg – father of first XV full-back Danny Trigg – becomes acting chairman.
Under Rob Worgan's stewardship Cinderford have gone from a South West Two club to the heady heights of National League One.
Off the field there have been highs and lows, with the club all set to move to a new ground until Co-op intervened with a deal to keep them at Dockham Road.
Cinderford RFC president Peter Bell said: "Rob will be a very hard act to follow.
"On behalf of the club I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all his hard work and commitment. We are in a much stronger position as a result of his hard work and dedication over the past 12 years."
