A LOCAL business has urged residents to be on alert after an attempted break-in at Robinsons Attic Interiors in Cinderford.

The incident happened in the early hours of Friday morning when the occupier was woken by noises coming from the back garden. On looking out of the window, they saw a man staring back at them before fleeing the scene.

Although the intruder was scared off, the porch door had already been opened, raising concerns about what might have happened if the disturbance had gone unnoticed. The occupier later shared their experience online to warn others in the town to remain vigilant.

They wrote: “I dread to think what could have happened if I hadn’t woken up.”

The attempted break-in has sparked wider concerns across Cinderford about the safety of homes and businesses. Some residents believe opportunist thieves are targeting properties late at night in the hope of finding doors and windows left unlocked.

Neighbourhood fears were voiced by local resident Hayley Cumner, who said her friend had already been the victim of thefts in their own home.

She said: “People of Cinderford be careful and make sure you lock your doors. A friend of mine has had things going missing and it turns out someone has been letting themselves in and taking whatever they can quickly get their hands on. My friend has even been asleep on the sofa when things next to him have disappeared. Please be careful people. It’s such a shame but it’s not safe out there anymore.”

Residents are being advised to double-check doors and windows before going to bed, keep valuables out of sight, and ensure security lights and cameras are working where possible.

The incident at Robinsons Attic Interiors has underlined the importance of vigilance. Locals say they hope increased awareness will deter offenders and prevent further incidents.
