Newnham v League XI
CHAMPIONS Newnham ran out five wicket winners in this game at Brightlands to cap a great Midweek League season.
Newnham skipper Grant Keddle won the toss and invited the League XI to bat first.
Will Jones (Lydney RFC) and Eddie Ruck (Cinderford) put on 37 for the first wicket, but the partnership was broken when Danny Bell bowled Ruck for 15.
Wickets began to fall steadily as the Newnham bowlers applied pressure. Danny Bell's four overs cost just 13 runs, while Keddle claimed 3-19 from his four overs, including the wicket of Lydney captain Ed Jones.
Tom Bell (2-23), Matt Dallow (2-14) and James Kenny (1-16) backed them up to restrict the League XI to 100-9 from 20 overs. Will Jones top scored with 25.
Newnham's reply started poorly and they were 28-3 after nine overs. Matt Dallow and Tom Bell took the score to 54 before Bell was bowled by Wilkinson.
Dallow played the match-winning innings of 40 not out as Newnham reached their target with seven balls to spare.
Midweek League chairman Trevor Tomkins presented Newnham with their trophy, and Lydney CC with the runners-up shield.
Man of the match adjudicator Adrian Ralph gave awards to a player from each side. Matt Dallow (pictured) received the Newnham award for his 40 not out and 2-14, while Jack O'Connell collected the League XI award for his excellent bowling spell of 1-8 from four overs, including a maiden. Both umpires John Hoare and Peter Osborne also received awards.
Parkend and Yorkley did not attend the evening.
