A DRIVER was lucky to escape unscathed when his Isuzu Trooper smashed into a garden wall in Westbury-on-Severn on Sunday night.

The 25-year-old man was driving through Westbury, from the direction of Lydney, when he lost control of his green four-wheel drive.

David Matthams was in bed when the car came off the road and collided with the brick wall of his front garden, all but obliterating it.

He said: "I was asleep when I suddenly heard a loud bang. I got out of bed and saw that a car had hit my wall and was now across the two carriages, in the middle of the road. I then called the police.

"My neighbour, from the house on the far end, was first to the scene and I think he helped him out of the car."

The vehicle was on its side and the driver shouted for help, saying his dog was also trapped.
