A FOREST pensioner who has been diagnosed with cancer is living in a property that does not have an electricity supply.

Jack Aston, 85, and wife Joyce, 84, live at Trafalgar House, an ancient property in woods near Brierley. They moved into their home when they were fit and healthy, some 34 years ago.

The couple currently spend around £1,000 a month to run their generator for just a few hours each evening.

Joyce added: "Unlike most people we can't spend the evenings relaxing as this is when the generator is going.

"This is when we have to do all our chores like washing, cleaning, ironing and cooking. Watching television is a luxury."
