THE DISTRICT Council will be urged to take a step towards helping people who are caught in a trap of having substandard rented houses or flats but unable to speak up about it.
The issue of what is called ‘no fault evictions’ from privately rented accommodate was highlighted in a BBC TV investigation last month where a private landlord in Kent decided he wanted to retire.
He, therefore, evicted every one of his tenants under Section 21 of the 1988 Housing Act, forcing them to leave with no reason and with little notice, so that he could sell all the properties in his massive portfolio.
The problem is relevant right across the country, including the Forest of Dean.
Cllr Bruce Hogan has now set down a motion for Thursday’s full district council meeting urging the authority to join with campaign groups such as End Unfair Evictions, Tenants Union UK, and Shelter to put an end to these so-called Section 21 Evictions.
