A BYLAW making it illegal to feed wild boar could be introduced in the Dean.

Coun Bruce Hogan (Lab, Lydbrook & Ruardean) mooted the suggestion at this week's District Council strategic & scrutiny committee meeting.

He said: "If there was a bylaw making it illegal to put out food for wild pigs then it would certainly make the message very clear - especially to the occasional visitor to the Forest of Dean who might think it's a great idea to put the remains of their packed lunch down for piglets."

Colleague Diane Martin (Lab, Cinderford East) said that councils had a collective responsibility with the Forestry Commission to solve boar issues through education.

She said: "I think this is a collective responsibility and it's up to district and parishes to help fund this situation."
