GERMAN budget supermarket Aldi says it is still committed to bringing a store to the Forest of Dean despite recent planning setbacks.

The retailer says it will apply for permission again despite a High Court ruling earlier this month which overturned proposals to build a store on Tufthorn Avenue in Coleford.

Mayor Nick Penny says the majority of Colefordians are in favour of the scheme and that Foresters are travelling out of the district due to a lack of shopping choice.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “While we are naturally disappointed with the High Court decision, we remain committed to bringing a new Aldi store to Coleford as we are convinced of the merits of a new store in this location and its benefits to the area.

“We are very much invested in these proposals and will be seeking to work closely with district council members and officers when the application comes before them once again in the next couple of months.

“We would like to to thank the local community again for its ongoing support and will keep local residents updated on progress.”
