TWO Forest pubs that have been classed as an asset of community value are being sold by their owners.
The Yew Tree Inn at Cliffords Mesne was nominated as an asset by the community group ‘Save Our Yew Tree’ and The Rising Sun Inn in Woodcoft was nominated by the ‘Save Our Sun Committee’ group.
The Yew Tree nomination was approved as a community by the Forest of Dean District Council in June of this year while the The Rising Sun Inn was listed in December 2013.
However the owners of both establishments have informed the local authority that they wish to sell the pubs.
In both cases a six-week moratorium has now commenced and will run until December 5.
During this period community requests to be considered as a potential bidder in relation to the property can be submitted to the Forest of Dean District Council.
However any such request must be made in writing, with relevant documentation.
If either community group makes a request during the interim moratorium, there will be a full moratorium on the property being sold that will last six months.
This period is intended to allow time to develop proposals and raise capital to purchase the land.
Alternatively, if no request is received, the property will be sold by the owner.
