HAWKWELL-based Overbrook Recovery has been purchased by the Caldicot Group in a deal that sees the business expand into the Forest of Dean.
Overbrook Recovery currently employs more than 30 members of staff and has two depots including an MOT centre and vehicle recovery base.
Overbrook is the biggest recovery agency in the Forest of Dean and it is expected that the established name will remain.
The original company was founded in 1938 as Hawthorn Garage and became Overbrook Garage in 1959 when it concentrated solely on the repair of cars and vehicle breakdown. It was one of the first companies to be involved in vehicle recovery.
The deal, which was completed last week with Trevor Griffiths and his family, enables the Caldicot Group to increase its operating network to more than 6,000 square miles.
Group managing director Gavin Edwards said the acquisition was crucial to the company’s expansion plans as it looks to better serve its customers.
He said: “We are delighted to have negotiated the purchase of one of Gloucestershire’s oldest and most respected recovery operations and are looking forward to building upon their long-standing success in the region.
"This company supports more than 500 businesses with their recovery needs as well as being an approved Highways England partner for major road infrastructure projects. "
