A ROW has broken out after a bus skidded on black ice and ploughed through the wall of a house in Soudley.

Three passengers were on the 717 service from Lydney to Vantage Point at the time and one received a minor cut to the head.

The driver of the bus, which slid off Lower Road at around 7.10am on Monday, was unhurt.

Tracey Baglin was brushing her teeth when it crashed just feet away from her bathroom wall.

"There was an almighty bang which I just thought was something like a skip being delivered," said Tracey, 44.

"I didn't think anything more of it until I went out to get my lift to work and saw all the damage.

"I couldn't believe it."

Bus company owner James Bevan said the road should have been gritted.

"Roads must be treated if there is one bus every two hours, yet there are two buses per hour on this road.

"I don't know why it wasn't gritted," he said.

"I don't know if the bus is going to be a write-off."

The bus crashed through the wall of Brooklyn House, which is owned by Clive and Kathy Kind.

"Luckily we were not there at the time because it would have been a bit of a rude awakening," said Clive.

"It's quite a steep slope coming down the road towards our house. Over Christmas it was like sheet ice.

"Whether buses use it or not, the road should be gritted because people use it all the time. There could be a real tragedy.

"We are just relieved that no one was seriously hurt this time."

Lower Road was closed for several hours while the bus was lifted off the wall with an airbag and towed away.

Structural engineers later examined the house and were satisfied it hadn't been seriously damaged.

Despite warmer daytime temperatures this week early morning frosts, especially on Monday, have caught several drivers out in the Forest.

A green Suzuki Grand Vitara rolled onto its roof in Parkend Road, Bream after the driver lost control of the vehicle because of the ice.

The driver was uninjured but the road was closed from 7.25am until the vehicle was recovered at around 9.20am.

In Aylburton, a car crashed through a wall and a hedge outside Colliers Brook.

It is thought a 4x4 was involved but the vehicle was driven away from the scene leaving the homeowner unable to get her car out of the garage.

There was no comment from the county council about gritting the road at Soudley at the time of going to press.
