Northern Senior League Division One
Broadwell 1
Brockworth Albion 0
BROADWELL won this eagerly awaited top-of-the-table clash at The Hawthorns with a goal from Ross Scott.
A youthful Brockworth side was held together by former Cinderford Town men Chris Burns and Dave Wilkinson.
Craig 'Bomber' Lewis returned to the Broadwell starting line-up and relished his midfield battle with Burns.
Broadwell wasted a couple of good early chances.
Guy Jones pushed his shot wide when one-on-one with the keeper, then Steve Belfitt also missed the target after racing clear.
Guy Jones had another effort saved after gliding past four defenders with a scintillating run.
In the second-half Broadwell manager Mark Allen introduced Matt Foxwell as an extra attacker, forcing Brockworth to defend. Craig Lewis was now running the game from midfield.
On the hour, Lewis had a ferocious strike palmed away by Williams in the Brockworth goal.
From the resulting corner, Lewis spotted Williams off his line and chipped him. The ball bounced back off the bar to the waiting Ross Scott, who turned the loose ball in.
The visitors reverted to a three man defence for the final 20 minutes. This allowed Lewis, Scott and Carl Adams to exploit the extra space.
In front of them, Belfitt and Mike Robbins worked extremely hard for the cause – with Robbins having his best game in a Broadwell shirt.
Broadwell: Lee Harris, Ian Price, Phil Delaney, Scott Albon, Andy Green, Craig Lewis, Carl Adams, Ross Scott, Steve Belfitt, Mike Robbins, Guy Jones. Subs: Matt Foxwell, Richard Evans, Mark Allen.
