BUILDER Barrie Head was saved by his mobile phone when he fell 20ft down a well and broke his back.

He was on his own renovating a disused cottage at Murrell's End, near Hartpury, when he tumbled into the hole.

Luckily the 66-year-old had his phone on him and enough signal to dial 999.

"This was my lifesaver," he said holding his Samsung mobile phone.

"I normally leave it in the van but for some unknown reason I had it in my pocket."
