TWO brothers who used bottles to attack a man after an earlier row over a girl have been jailed at Gloucester Crown Court.
Wade and Levi Freeman injured Asif Dadabhoy and also caused £7,000 of damage to his 4x4, the court heard.
Wade, 23, of Johnstone Road, Newent, and Levi, 22, of Bazeley Road, Matson, Gloucester, both admitted unlawfully wounding Mr Dadabhoy on July 4, 2009.
Levi, who is serving four years for drug dealing, was sentenced to six months prison consecutively. Wade was jailed for 14 months.
Prosecutor Derek Ryder told the court there had been "bad feeling" between Wade Freeman and Mr Dadabhoy over a girl, Carly Burton.
There had been an argument between Wade and Ms Burton in January 2009. Mr Dadabhoy had heard about it and had "come to her aid," said Mr Ryder.
Mr Dadabhoy drove her home but when he got there both Freeman brothers were waiting and there was "violent conduct" which resulted in charges being brought, he said. However, that case was stopped by magistrates because paperwork was not ready on time.
On July 4, late at night, Mr Dadabhoy was driving in Tredworth with another man when he saw the two defendants and another man walking towards him, said Mr Ryder.
"He stopped and there was instant recognition of him because of the earlier incident. Wade approached his driver's door holding a bottle. He sprayed the contents into the victim's face.
"The victim drove off a short distance and then opened his door to clean himself off. He was then attacked by all three men.
"Wade put him in a headlock and delivered a number of blows to the top of his head. He does not dispute he was holding a bottle.
"Levi accepts that he had a bottle and that he hit Mr Dadabhoy's head.
"Mr Dadabhoy says all three men attacked him with a brick and an iron bar.
The attackers smashed the rear driver's side of the car and Levi threw a brick through the windscreen.
Mr Dadabhoy was later treated for jaw pain, a cut to the scalp and bruising.
"His was an expensive vehicle and this incident caused damage which was something in the order of £7,000 to repair."
David Maunder, for Wade, said the bad feeling was "in regard to Mr Dadabhoy's apparent relationship with Carly."
But it all happened two years ago and Wade was now back with Carly and they have a child together, he said.
"It was a nasty offence. We are dealing with two men arguing over a woman," he said.
For Levi, Rosie Walsh said he had no motive for the attack and was helping his brother.
Since being imprisoned for drugs offences he had become a trusted inmate who worked as a gym orderly, she said.
Jailing the pair, Judge Jamie Tabor QC said he accepted it was a chance meeting between the brothers and Mr Dadabhoy.
He accepted there was "background" to the relationship between the brothers and their victim.
