MARTIN Reid will be taking over as manager of Harrow Hill next season from his brother Andy.

Andy will still be helping to run the first-team, along with Steve Manns.

It was a great 2010/11 season for Hill, who earned promotion to Division One of the Northern Senior League and won the Senior Amateur Cup.

Andy is taking a step back from management because of personal commitments, but he is planning to resume his playing career in goal.

Reid played for many of the Forest's top sides as a goalkeeper, including Cinderford Town and Harrow Hill.

He was also a talented rugby full-back, who had good spells with both Berry Hill and Drybrook.

He thought his sporting career was over when he broke a bone in his knee playing rugby for Drybrook against Thornbury in 2009, but now the doctors have told him he should be OK to play football as a goalkeeper.

Reid said: "I've got eight pins and a plate in my leg which have to come out.

"What stops me playing rugby is the running, but I should be fine in goal."

A few years ago, Harrow Hill's future looked bleak due to financial problems – especially when they had to withdraw from the Hellenic League.

Chairman Reg Taylor said: "Things are still tight but we're in a much better position than we have been for a long time. Andy (Reid) did a great job last season and we can't thank him enough."

Harrow Hill have new tenants this year and will be sharing their ground with fellow Northern Senior League oufit Stroud. On the pitch, Hill look set to stick with most of the players who get them promoted.

The majority have played at a higher level – including last season's players' player and manager's player of the year Clayton Hook.

The referee's player of the year last season was striker Eddie Weyman, who scored 26 goals.

The club has not yet confirmed its pre-season friendlies but a pig roast will be held on July 16 to help raise funds.

Pre-season training starts on July 5 at the club (7pm).
