Bream 12
Drybrook 13
DRYBROOK completed their pre-season programme with a narrow victory at Bream, where the home side missed the chance to snatch victory with a late penalty.
The first half belonged to Drybrook, who created numerous try-scoring opportunities but lacked the ability to finish them off.
Eventually, after 30 minutes, centre Simon Rugman broke through for a try that Tom Treherne converted.
More pressure led to an easy penalty for Treherne in front of the Bream posts.
Both sides made numerous changes at the interval but it was Bream who looked the stronger as their bigger pack began to make inroads.
With 10 minutes played the home side grabbed a try out of nothing when Drybrook failed to defend the blind side of a ruck on halfway and Carl Rogers showed a good turn of foot to score under the posts. Pete Pritchard added the extras.
Bream sensed victory and had Drybrook under the cosh for a long spell. They grabbed a second try when winger Dan Hardy cut back inside to score near the posts. Pritchard missed the conversion.
Drybrook found some urgency and Treherne regained the lead for his side with a long range penalty.
In injury-time, Bream worked their way down field from their own line and had a chance to win it with a penalty at the death.
Unfortunately for them, Pritchard was off target.
There were a number of promising individual performances from Drybrook, including that of young full-back Jacob Landon, who impressed when he came on as a replacement to make his senior debut.
For Bream, captain Sean James was always a threat, while Lee Ryder, Mark Lee and Rich Halford made some big tackles.
