TEN years ago, Lucy Thomas' family were told that if she survived a rare brain disease, she would be 'a cabbage for the rest of her life'. Lucy, 38, from Woolaston, was diagnosed with encephalitis, which attacks the immune system. She spent close to a year in various hospitals - including time at Wotton Lawn, because doctors wrongly thought she was having a mental breakdown.
