FORESTRY chiefs are to fence off the Beechenhurst picnic site to stop wild boar churning it up.
Workers are currently preparing the ground for the wire mesh fence which will be four foot high.
At 2,000 metres long, the boar proof mesh fence will be put up right around the popular visitor attraction.
Wildlife officer Ian Harvey says it will be discreetly hidden in the wooded areas surrounding the well known tourist destination.
Two years ago there was an outcry when rangers considered shooting a family of wild boar known as the Beechenhurst Six.
Mr Harvey said: "Over the last few years the boar have been coming in increasing numbers and churning up the grassland.
"It makes it difficult for visitors to have a picnic, kick a football or just run around on the grass.
