A BIKER fled into the woods after crashing into the side of a car in Parkend on Friday evening.

The driver of a white Vauxhall Meriva called police at around 10.30pm after being involved in a collision with a black Kawasaki motorbike near the Fountain Inn.

Shortly after the accident, with emergency services on their way, the motorcyclist fled the scene, running into the woods.

Police dogs were used to try and track him down. They followed the man's scene through the woods, close to the Whitemead Forest Park camping site, where they lost track of him.

A witness, who did not want to be named, said: "I was sat on one of the benches at the Fountain Inn when I heard the crash.

"I went to the junction to see what had happened and saw a motorbike had crashed with a car.

"There was a dent on the side of the car, the driver was quite distressed and the motorcyclist seemed rather disorientated.

"I then went to phone the police and ambulance, but the man had gone."
