National Two South

19 STONE centre Danny Chui (pictured) tilted this match in Lydney's favour after coming on as a second half sub.

Chui scored two tries and was instrumental in much of Lydney's best work as they made it three wins out of three with a six-try victory.

"I can't remember us making such a good start to a season," said delighted Lydney director of rugby Nick Bartlett.

"We won ugly last week, but I never thought we looked like losing against Taunton.

"The players are working really hard for each other and they have become quite a tight bunch.

"To come to a place like Taunton and score six tries is very satisfying.

"In previous years this is a game we might have lost, but I honestly believe the players have matured as a group this season."

In a high scoring game, Chris Holder, Jim McMahon, Kurt Brown and Tai Lakabuka also touched down for Lydney, in addition to those two second half scores from Chui.

Young fly-half Curtis Russell – thrust into the starting line-up in the absence of Craig Jones and Tony Wicks – kicked all six conversions and a penalty for a personal tally of 15 points.

Bartlett added: "Scoring is not a problem for us this season and our wingers Tai Lakabuka and Josh Hannam look very dangerous.

"Kurt Brown and Will Jones complemented each other in the back-row, while I was very pleased with the way Curtis Russell handled himself.

"I thought Danny Chui was outstanding in the second half and our man of the match."

Taunton contributed plenty to an entertaining game of rugby, with former Cinderford winger Reuben Haile scoring a hat-trick of tries.

Another former Cinderford man, Dave Bufton, also figured for Taunton as a replacement.
