BUDGET supermarkets Lidl and Aldi have gone head-to-head in a bid to open new stores in the Forest – with Lidl coming out on top

Planning applications for stores in Lydney by the German chains were decided by Forest councillors yesterday (Tuesday).

The Forest Council’s planning committee agreed recommendations to give the green light – subject to legal formalities being agreed – for a town centre site, set to be operated by Lidl, and to refuse one for an out-of-town site for Aldi.
