SUPERMARKET Asda is in the lead in the battle with Sainsbury's in the run-up to D-Day next week.

Councillors will be recommended to vote for Asda by planning officers at a crunch meeting on Tuesday.

But the battle is far from over because the Cinderford Regeneration Board is backing the Sainsbury's bid.

Now there is all to play for at a special meeting of the development control committee.

Both supermarkets will bring similar benefits to the town, including between 130 and 200 full-time jobs and a major cash injection for the town centre, according to a report sent to the committee.
