THE 2011 GPJ Soccer Sixes finals for small schools took place under floodlights on the synthetic pitch at Heywood School.
Postponed in November due to bad weather, the competition was well worth the wait.
Ann Cam, Blakeney, Newnham St Peter's and Pillowell were greeted with blue skies and sunshine and all four teams gave good accounts of themselves.
Nothing could separate the teams in the first round of matches, which both finished 0-0.
Ann Cam threw down the gauntlet to the others with a 4-0 win over Newnham.
Blakeney then won a close game with Pillowell by 1-0.
Going into the last round of games all four teams still had a chance of gaining top honours but, with a win each under their belts, the favourites were Ann Cam and Blakeney.
Ann Cam beat Pillowell with two late goals, meaning Blakeney had to win 5-0 against St Peter's.
A hard fought 0-0 draw left Ann Cam winners, with Blakeney runners-up.
"Every year the standard of football gets better," said Steve Price of the School Sports Partnership.
"There was some tremendous young talent on display. The synthetic pitch at Heywood certainly helped, giving the youngsters the confidence to get the ball down and play."
This year's event was managed by the Year 11 young apprentices at Heywood School under the guidance of tutor Carly Phillips.
