Some of the more venerable, (not to say ancient?) members of the Freemasons in Gloucestershire are embarking on a marathon rowing challenge of approximately 40 miles down the mighty River Severn, from Stourport to the Gloucester Basin.
The challenge is to be undertaken over four days, with relays of crews in a four man Explorer Class racing craft, and it is hoped the intrepid "older blades" will reach the Basin around midday on May 7.
Shown during a training session are Roger Hale, Fred Ballard, John Thurston and Neville McKay, who are part of the team that is expected to take part. Others include Roger Hale, Peter Daniels and Major The Hon, Andrew Wigram.
Gloucester Rowing Club is undergoing a major facelift, with new landing stages to be completed this year, so thanks must go to them for the loan of the racing craft to these ancient mariners.
This sponsored row is taking place to raise money for the Provincial Charity, which has a target of £1 million. These funds will be used to assist charitable work in Gloucestershire in the years to come.
