A 69-year-old local man to Coleford is believed to have had a ‘medical incident’ which ended up with him crashing into an oncoming vehicle.
The accident happened around 3.25pm on Wednesday, September 2 and witnesses describe the Jaguar vehicle being driven slowly through the traffic lights and veering to the other side of Bank Street just past the Forestry Commission’s entrance, and coming to a halt when the car hit a Toyota vehicle outside the new elderly complex.
An off-duty fireman smashed a rear window to access the man who was slumped over the steering wheel and immediately started cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived.
After being treated by the medical experts for nearly an hour, the casualty was driven away in a road ambulance to the waiting air ambulance about a mile away.
At the time of going to press the man was described as being in a ‘serious but stable condition’ at the Bristol hospital.
