THREE dogs were killed in a four hour long house fire in Newent last week.
Firefighters were scrambled from Newent, Gloucester and Cinderford to tackle the blaze on Culver Street around 2am on April 4.
The fire damaged 60 per cent of the ground floor of the property and crews were fighting the flames until 6am.
All of the occupants of the house were accounted for but three dogs died in the blaze.
Western Power also attended to disconnect a power cable above the house.
A spokesperson for the electricity company said: “We were called out by the fire service because a blaze in the roof of the property was beginning to damage the cable that supplies power to the house.
“We disconnected the cable as a safety measure and to prevent any further damage to it.”
Chris Brown and Dave Franklin, both members of the Red Cross’s Gloucester-based emergency response team also providing support for the victims.
Mr Franklin said: “We were called out by the fire service to provide practical and emotional support to the resident of the property affected by the blaze. We also provided refreshments.”
The team were there for approximately an hour until the resident was able to sort out alternative accommodation.
