GP HEALTH centres will be expected to take up the slack when the current hospitals in Lydney and Cinderford are replaced by a single unit in Cinderford.

Cllr Carole Allaway-Martin, chairman of Gloucestershire health and care overview and scrutiny committee, has made a detailed written reply to Lydney councillors Alan Preest and Brian Pearman over NHS provision for Lydney.

Cllr Allaway-Martin, said she been briefed on the situation by the Gloucestershire NHS Clinical Commissioning Group.

In a written response, she said: “Community hospital sites provide a number of services. Whilst they are important to local residents it is important to note that these are a relatively small proportion of the total health services provided in any area and this includes in the south of the Forest."
