THE Good News Centre did not live up to its name as a car ploughed into the cafe and bookshop in Newent last week.

A Ford Galaxy, which had been parked on Watery Lane, rolled straight into the front of the Christian bookshop on High Street at around 9.30am on January 28.

The centre’s manager, Donna Kenyon, said that it was a ‘miracle’ that nobody was hurt.

Despite the extensive damage to the building, the cafe is still open to the public who can access the cafe through a rear entrance.

She thanked the many residents that had visited the cafe showing their support during the day of the accident.

She said: “We are still very much open.

“It was a miracle that nobody was hurt.”

A police spokesperson confirmed that a Ford Galaxy car had collided with the front of the building and that officers were investigating the incident which caused damage to the shop frontage.

He added: “The driver of the car was in the shop at the time and it is believed that the vehicle has rolled down the hill into the shop.

"There were no injuries to any customers in the shop at the time of the collision.”
