LOCAL residents are being warned not to be complacent about the terror threat just because we live in a rural area.

Gloucestershire Police said on Monday, following last Saturday’s terrorism attack in London, said there is no specific threat to the Forest of Dean, but it does not mean that people living in a rural area shouldn’t be vigilant.

Lee Solly, the acting inspector for the Forest of Dean said: “People need to remain vigilant. They can act as the eyes and ears for the intelligence services.

“The intelligence services rely on reliable information and people might see things going on locally or when they are out and about elsewhere in the country.

“If you find yourself saying ‘It’s probably nothing”, the fact that you having to convince yourself of that suggests that it could be something the police need to know about.

“If you are in a doubt, report it and let us investigate.

“After all that’s our job. Don’t assume it wouldn’t happen in a sleepy rural area like this part of Gloucestershire.”
