A BANNED driver who led police on a dangerous chase is facing jail - because he tried to get out of trouble by lying.

Mark Lloyd, 46, made things much worse for himself by claiming that his truck had been stolen and it was not him driving during the chase on April 3, 2014.

At Gloucester Crown Court he pleaded not guilty to driving dangerously and while disqualified in his Mitsubishi pick-up on that date.

He also denied perverting the course of justice by falsely reporting that his truck had been stolen on April 1, 2014.

But a jury found him guilty of all charges. The judge, Recorder Ben Browne, QC, warned him that he faces custody when he is sentenced on November 26.

Tim Hills, prosecuting, said that police chase happened after he was spotted in his vehicle at 9.30am on April 3.

The court was told that an unmarked police car pursued the pickup with its blue light and siren going.

“The truck led the police on a substantial chase around the narrow streets until the vehicle went the wrong way round a roundabout in Valley Road and headed towards a Forestry track.

The court was told that it was at this point the police had to abort the pursuit.
