A DOG is reportedly ’recovering well’ after it was attacked by an unknown man at a home near Parkend.
The golden retriever ran to its owner at the address off Fancy Road ’covered in blood, according to police, having allegedly suffered several wounds.
Gloucestershire Police confirmed the attack, which occurred yesterday, Wednesday March 16, at around 1:30pm, was perpetrated by a man wearing a brown jacket and jeans.
A spokesperson for the force said the man had attacked the dog in the home’s front garden but left after being confronted by the owner.
Details of the incident have circulated on social media, although much of this is yet to be verified by police.
A post has been duplicated across several Facebook groups which describes the attacker as a ’scruffy-looking, unshaven man aged between 40-50.’
He is also described as having dark greying hair wearing a baseball cap, a brown top with fur collar and carrying a walking stick.
The post alleges that the man leaned over the fence and was seen ’manhandling’ the dog.
It also states the owner took the dog to a local vet, who reportedly stated the golden retriever was injured a sharp instrument that had inflicted a slash wound.
The activist group Forest of Dean Boar Saboteurs have written to The Forester warning that they will be patrolling the streets following another attack to a pet in the Dean, although the police spokesperson stressed it was ’too early’ to link the attack to the spate of assaults on cats in Cinderford.
“In light of the Gloucestershire Police’s inability to look after our wildlife and pets we will be patrolling the area regularly,” the warning read.
“This sort of psychopath cannot be allowed to roam free throughout our beautiful forest.”
Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact the Police on 101, quoting Incident number 435 of Wednesday March 16.
