SHORTLY before 1PM on Saturday, police were called to reports of a man with a knife making threats in a Cinderford street.

Armed officers attended the incident in the Crucible Way and Teagues Way area after receiving reports that a man was shouting threats at another man who was inside a property.

The incident prompted a large police presence in the town, with residents reporting seeing armed officers in the area during the afternoon.

In an update issued later on Saturday, Gloucestershire Constabulary reassured the public that nobody had been injured and confirmed that an arrest had been made.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill, criminal damage and possession of a knife in a public place.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

Police said the incident was reported shortly before 1PM and involved two men who are understood to know each other.

Officers responded after receiving information that a man was in possession of a knife while in the Crucible Way and Teagues Way area.

Armed police were deployed as a precaution while officers dealt with the situation and secured the scene.

The force sought to reassure residents who may have been concerned by the visible police presence, stating that no injuries had been reported as a result of the incident.

An investigation remains ongoing and officers are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
