A HAIRDRESSER in Mitcheldean has spoken of her shock when she found her salon had been burgled over the weekend.

Deborah Wakefield, who has run KCL on Mill End Street for 11 years, said the salon had to cancel all business upon opening on Tuesday morning and was grateful to her clients for their understanding.

Police officers are now investigating the burglary, which happened between 1pm on Saturday February 27 and 8.45am yesterday, Tuesday March 1.

The thieves made off with around £300 of petty cash as well as a host of hairdressing equipment.

This includes several sets of GHD hair straighteners, hairdryers, scissors and products.

“I couldn’t tell you how much it was all worth. We haven’t had a chance to work it out and we have people here now helping,” Deborah said.

“The girls came in this morning and were shocked because they were brought up in the village.

“It’s a massive shock when you find things all over the floor and the till knocked over and things pulled out.

“It’s surprising in a small village like Mitcheldean but it just makes you realise that even in small places like here it still goes on.

“It’s quite sad really that such a lovely village can be spoilt by things like this.

“It worries people living nearby and hopefully it won’t go as far as that.

“We’ve been here for 11 years and never had any trouble. It’s such a lovely village and community and the clientele are great. We know all of them so well.

“It’s just the inconvenience really. We had to cancel all our appointments this morning because we just didn’t have the equipment but our clients have been really understanding.”

Anyone with who saw suspicious activity in the area or who has been offered hairdressing equipment for sale, is asked to call 101 quoting incident 63 of March 1.
