THE normally peaceful village of Bream is in the grip of fear following a couple of drive-by shootings by what is believed to be thugs firing a BB gun through windows.
In both cases, a CCTV camera has captured footage of a silver car with alloy wheels driving past at the times of the shootings.
In the latest incident on Tuesday last week, 84-year-old Marlene Moore had been looking out of her living room window in Bream High Street just moments before the glass was shattered.
Her son Dan Moore who runs the M&H engineering business next door said: “Had the window not been double-glazed my mother would have been covered in glass and who knows what situation we would be facing now.
"She is a tough woman who has been greatly shocked by this incident.
"Whether it’s a catapult or a gun of an unknown calibre, there is definitely somebody out there driving around firing something at us.
"Luckily the past two incidents have only resulted in damage to property and thankfully nobody has been injured. We definitely don’t want this to happen again.
"The weapon being used is dangerous and its projectile could so easily hurt or seriously injure somebody. This is not fiction and there must not be a third occasion."
Local councillor Richard Leppington said: “Another premises in Bream has been targeted by a drive-by shooting.
“This is the second such incident in as many weeks. Whether it’s a catapult or a rifle is immaterial.
“Is the third incident going to be even worse when somebody gets shot in the head and dies from the effects of being hit?”
