BUDGET retailer Aldi has unveiled its intention to open a new store in Coleford with a public exhibition in the town on Thursday. Aldi is consulting the public over its proposals to develop an area of vacant land between Tufthorn Avenue and Arthur Cooper Way on the edge of the industrial site. With the site having been identified for development since 2005, Aldi will be bidding to bring the land, earmarked for employment, into positive use with a vibrant new 1,254 m² food store with associated parking. A spokesperson for Aldi commented: "We are keen to see the development potential of this site fully realised through a brand new store, which will not only complement the existing offering in the town, but will also provide local people with access to a premium deep discount retailer." At Monday's meeting of Lydney Town Council, Councillor James Bevan said that the discount food retailer had been looking around the Lydney area for some time to find a suitable location, but the company discovered that landowners were unwilling to make suitable plots available for a supermarket.
