AN action group in Berry Hill is stepping up its opposition to a scheme to build 200 houses.

Gladman Developments want to build on land behind the Gamekeeper's Inn – but opponents feel it would spoil the 'integrity' of the village, which has around 850 dwellings.

Mark Monk, a spokesman for the action group, said: "We've analysed Gladman's application and conclude that the company is basing their proposal on the grounds that the District Council has a shortfall in its housing allocation for the next five years.

"We understand that the Forest of Dean authority has fulfilled this obligation and therefore we see no other reason why this application should be approved."
