THE FOREST of Dean District Council has issued a warning to residents after several bulky items were illegally dumped at a community recycling site in Newent.

The fly-tipping incident, which occurred earlier this week, involved household goods being left at the edge of the recycling centre.

Council officers say the waste should have been taken to the Household Recycling Centre or disposed of using the authority’s bulky waste collection service.

Images released by the council show items strewn near the bins, undermining the purpose of the site, which is intended for recyclable materials only

In a statement, the council said: “Leaving items at a recycling centre that do not belong there is fly-tipping. Pictured are items we’ve found in Newent today. These bulky items should have been disposed of correctly at the local Household Recycling Centre, or a collection could have been arranged through the Forest of Dean District Council.”

The authority is now appealing for witnesses and is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Members of the public can report information to the council’s Street Warden Team via email at [email protected].

Fly-tipping is a criminal offence, and the council says it is committed to investigating incidents and taking enforcement action where possible. Offenders risk fines and potential prosecution.

A spokesperson added: “We all have a duty to protect the environment and our towns and villages here in the Forest of Dean. Please remember to dispose of your waste correctly. There is no excuse for fly-tipping.”

The council is also reminding residents that it offers a bulky waste collection service for those unable to transport large items themselves.

This service can be booked through the council website and includes the collection of items such as furniture, mattresses and white goods.
