Singer Lisa makes it to open mic finals
Thursday, 22 September 2011
THE Forest’s very own singer/songwriter Lisa Jenkinson has made it through to the regional finals of Open Mic UK in Cardiff. Full-time mum Lisa, 39, from Newent, has two daughters Louella and Violette. She said: “My partner and my two daughters are all very musical, it’s not just me! I’ve been singing since I was 16, I’ve gigged all around the Forest as part of a band called The Present, which some people may remember. I also used to do gigs with my friend Eon, who has been supporting me throughout the competition. “The song I sang for my first audition was one I composed myself called ‘Three Thousand Words’. Getting through was such a big thrill for me because it wasn’t just my voice being judged, it was my music as well. “The venue for the regional finals in Cardiff is lovely, it’s called the Coal Exchange. I have a three and a half minute time slot, and I’m going to sing a snippet from Three Thousand Words, then go into Adele’s hit ‘Someone Like You’, which works perfectly. “If I get through this time, I’ll be performing at the O2 in London so obviously I’d love to get through for the experience, that’d be amazing. “We’ve organised a minibus to the Coal Exchange from the Forest on October 8, tickets cost £8. It’ll be a whole evening of different acts, plus a special guest who we don’t know until the day – if you’d like to buy tickets, please phone me as soon as possible on 07759 383146.
