Calls to clear road drains blocked for two years in Ruardean

By Carmelo Garcia in Local People

VERDERER Maurice Bent is calling on Gloucestershire Highways to clear road drains in Ruardean Hill which have been blocked for at least two years.

Mr Bent, who has raised the issue several times, says the drains on High View are so blocked up rainwater just flows over them.

“It’s been an ongoing problem for two years,” he said. “I have reported it several times but the problem hasn’t been sorted.

“They came out one day but the drain is rusted shut. The other week the rainwater just flows down the road and just passes over the drain.”

Highways workers have inspected the problem and say they are planning on cleaning out the drains this month.

Rhodri Grey, local highways manager, said: “Highways officers have been out to inspect the gullies and cleaning the system has been scheduled for this month.

“Our lengthsmen gang will be in the area in the next few weeks and the local team will continue to monitor this location.”

• If you spot an issue on the highway please report it to the council’s website. Residents can report highways issues at gloucestershire.gov.uk.
